PRESS RELEASE

JK Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of paintings by John Dempcy and Kathleen Waterloo. Both artists, in ways befitting the generations and contexts that produced them, explore inspiring tendencies in abstract painting. This will be both artists’ first group show in Los Angeles.

Dempcy’s paintings are instantly recognizable, with their circular bursts of radiant color to compliment a methodical process of variation and nuance. His work merges the worlds of nature and biology, implying a dedication to organic form. This particular series explores the intrinsic character of the paint itself, as drops are systematically applied to a vicious medium build and shape a distinct topography. The pieces pulsate with colorful unrefined shapes, portraying a balance between order and chaos.

John Dempcy earned his AA at the Art Institute of Seattle in Seattle, WA in 1991, and his BA at The University of Washington in Seattle, WA in 1981.

Kathleen Waterloo focuses on perspective examinations of architecture. In her most recent works, Waterloo is inspired by ancient Greek structures as she renders her own observations. The elegance of the works is tempered by geometric blocks of color, giving a sense of contingency into the otherwise highly controlled world of architecture.
